AUTOMATED DESIGN OF CONCRETE BUILDINGS

CONTROLS ON DESIGN PROCESS

The engineer may control the automatic design process in many ways:

  • Choose the design code: American, Canadian or European
  • Select the seismic code: American, Canadian or Chilean
  • Select the Limit States, Ultimate Strength or Working Stress design method
  • Select any steel and concrete strength; different strength for beams, slabs, columns, walls; different values in different parts of the building
  • Choose the methods of computing gravity floor loaded distribution and lateral loads
  • Modify the AMECO procedures for computing member and joint stiffnesses
  • Preselect the member sizes and have them checked for adequacy or have the sizes selected automatically
  • Impose limits on the member sizes, on the range of reinforcing bar sizes
  • Specify the types of bars, trussed, straight, types of stirrups, ties, spirals
  • Force a group of members to have the same size or the same reinforcing
  • Override the code specified values for reinforcing cover, minimum and maximum steel percentage, bar spacing
  • Select the series of bars: America , Canadian SI, Metric, …
  • Impose limits on the deflections, stresses
